2009 - 2010 Keheley PTA Committee Descriptions

Arts Festival (2,4,5) Help organize the annual art festival by setting up artwork and assisting parents with the purchase of their children’s masterpieces. Time Commitment: minimal
Arts in Education (1,4.5) Providing educational enrichment through various cultural art programs. Arrange for author visits, artists, storytellers, musicians etc., to visit the school throughout the year. Time commitment: minimal.
Box Tops & Grocery Cards (1,3,4) Publix, Kroger, Target & General Mills Box Tops for Education. Promote the programs and encourage families to participate. Distribute info on grocery & Target cards. Collect box tops and submit them for credit. Time Commitment: Minimal Breakfast with Santa (2,3,4) Decorate stage and Cougar Cafe, organize volunteers to serve breakfast. Solicit vendors for craft show held in gym. Advertise and collect for prepaid breakfast tickets. Time commitment: Minimal
Calendar/Handbook (2,3,4) Prepare PTA school calendar/handbook to be distributed during Sneak a Peek at the beginning of school year. Most work to be done over the summer. Knowledge of Microsoft Publisher helpful. Time Commitment: Minimal Community Outreach (1,4) Help educate students of the importance of helping others in our community through charitable events. Organize and work with students working on service projects for the community Time Commitment: variable
Cookie Dough Sale (2,3,4) Advertise and process cookie orders for annual cookie dough sale. Assist with distribution of product when delivered. Time commitment: Late Fall Environmental Education (1,4,6) Educational enrichment by expanding our knowledge of keeping the environment healthy. Assist with projects throughout the year and help to beautify the Keheley grounds. Time Commitment: varies throughout the year
Fall Festival (2,3,4,6) Help to coordinate the annual Keheley Fall Festival. Includes, but is not limited to: assisting w/ ticket sales, food sales, set up, decorations advertising and clean up. Organizing volunteers to work. Time commitment: Fall- with flexible shifts. Family Fun Nights (1,3,4) Help to bring Keheley families together through various “Family Fun Nights” Assist with Movie Night, Bingo and other various Functions throughout the year. Work closely with Community Outreach Committee. Time Commitment: variable
Fifth Grade Reception ( 2) Organize ice cream social, 5th grade video, reception, invitations, programs purchase cake, punch, paper supplies. 5th gr Tshirt Time Commitment: variable committee of at least 5. Fundraising (2,4) Organize the main fundraiser (Innisbrook) that provides financial support for the PTA’s various programs. Distribute catalogs, advertise, collect orders and distribute purchased items. Time Commitment: Fall
Health & Safety (1,3,4,6) Educational enrichment of nutrition and other health issues. Organize Red Ribbon Week to educate students on substance abuse. Coordinate Health & Safety fair for Keheley families and Submit articles to the Paw Print Express several times a year. Time commitment: variable. Hospitality (1) Help set up and/or serve at “Welcome Back Breakfast/ Luncheon for Keheley Staff/ and Newcomers Coffee at beginning of year. Coordinate refreshments for various small events. Time Commitment: minimal
Kids Voting (2) Organize a mock election, work with faculty, set-up voting box. Time Commitment: short term fall Kindergarten Orientation (2) Welcome new Kindergarten students and parents, assist with tours of the school and help them get acquainted with Keheley Elementary. Time Commitment: minimal – approx 2 hours
Material Production (1,4) Assist teachers & staff by making photocopies, die cuts, laminating, etc. Training on all equipment provided. Time Commitment: very flexible 1-2 hrs weekly, monthly or bi-monthly Media Center (1,4,5) Assist media specialist by shelving books, help students with book selections and checking books in/out. Time Commitment: flexible 2 hrs weekly, monthly or bi-monthly
Memory Book (1,3,4) Work with committee members and yearbook vendor to design and organize annual memory book. Take pictures at various school events process orders and deliver books at year end. Time Commitment: variable Original Art Works (2,3,4) Process orders for original artwork (magnets and other various items available for purchase with your child’s artwork on it) Time Commitment: minimal in early spring
Priority Reports (1,3,4) Write and submit eight(8) Priority reports to the Georgia PTA. Chair person must have excellent writing skills. Time Commitment: Variable, all work can be done From home & completed by end of February Partners In Education (1,4) Coordinate and seek out new corporations to join in partnership with Keheley. Communicate with current partners and inform them of events and projects that are being worked at the school. Work with principal/vice-principal as a contact for present and new partners. Time Commitment: variable
PTA Membership (1,4) Promote PTA membership at Keheley Elementary throughout the school year. Educate parents about the importance of membership and what the PTA does for our children. Collect dues, organize membership drive for sneak-a-peek, distribute membership cards & submit appropriate info to state and national PTA. Time Commitment: variable PTA Newsletter (1,3,4) Preparation of monthly PTA Newsletter, the Paw Print Express, Responsible for compiling articles from staff and PTA committees, layout, proofing and distribution of newsletter. Time Commitment: monthly, most all work can be done from home.
PTA Website (1,3,4) Help to maintain PTA website on a regular basis. Work closely with PTA committees and gather information for website. Website helps to communicate goals, projects and events throughout the school year. Time Commitment: variable; work can be done at home. Reflections (2,3,4) Organize and promote the annual PTA program that encourages original visual arts, photography, music, literature and video production. Submit entries to judging panel for voting and forward winners to Georgia PTA. Time Commitment: minimal; fall and early winter
Room Representative (1,4) Work closely with teachers and recruit parent volunteers for classroom activities/field trips. Coordinate holiday party in Dec. and assist with Teacher Appreciation week in May. Time Commitment: varies by grade and teacher needs Must be available during school hours. School Store (1,4) Purchase and stock store with a variety of school supplies for students to purchase. Volunteers needed to operate school store on Mon., Wednesday and Friday mornings. Time Commitment: flexible/mornings
School Supplies (2,4) Coordinate sale of prePackaged school supply kits. Pre-sell kits and set up at sneak-a-peek for pick up and/or sale of pre-packs. Time Commitment: minimal Silent Auction (1,4) Help coordinate off-site, adult only silent auction to be held in May. Work throughout the year to obtain items/donations from corporations and local businesses to be auctioned off to the public. Assist in decorations, food, invitations, publicity, etc. Several sub-committees will be formed to handle all necessary preparation and execution of auction. Time Commitment: variable with several planning meetings throughout year.
Sock Hop (2,4) Help plan, decorate and staff for this fun Keheley event. Pre-sell tickets, assist with refreshments and/or help taking and printing pictures. Organize volunteers to help for set up, work during and clean up needed for event. Time Commitment: flexible before, during event 2-4 hours the evening of the dance. Spirit Wear (1,4) – Promote Keheley school spirit through sales of spirit wear at sneak a peek and event. various events/PTA meetings during the school year. Research vendors for clothing and other spirit related items. Place stock orders. Time Commitment: variable; requires some planning during summer months.
Texas Roadhouse (1,4) This is a ‘cooks night off” Assist with fundraiser several times a year. Advertise event, take pre-orders of meals, help with organizing meals for pick up. Time Commitment: Flexible/variable Volunteer Coordinator (1,3,4) Organize and assist events in recruiting volunteers where needed.
